A lovely article about the history of bean bags. Just a little background read for those beanbag enthusiasts.
Bean bag originated way back in 1960's and were initially called as sac chairs. In those days they were made of the leather fabrics only and there were a very limited colors and designs to choose from. This was the main reason people refrained from buying these furniture items and making them a part of their household. However time has changed and so have the bean bags also. Now there they come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colors and textures as well to choose from. The leather covering and appearance have been changed drastically to offer cloth, synthetic or vinyl finishing to choose from. This has lead to a drastic increase in their demand and made them popular with masses. Now they can be spotted all over the places like offices, airports, hotels, lounges, houses and restaurants. Bean chairs are fast gaining popularity with the people from all age groups ranging from kids to adults. Hence everyone is interested in buying one for their comfort and ease. However it should be noted that they are not everlasting and damage proof as they are made of the Styrofoam beans which are compressed after repeated use and flatten out as a result. The accidental wear and tear can also take place which needs to be taken care of. But they can be refilled and repaired instead of throwing them away in the garbage. The inner filling of the bean bags is readily available in the market in all possible shapes and sizes. The required size and shaped filling can be bought and the bean bag be filled with it to make it new and working again. Also simple material available at home can be made to good use by stuffing them into the bean bags and making it as good as new. The simpler and easily available materials like cotton, thermocol balls, and sponge can be used for this purpose. You can get a new cover from the market to cover it. This makes the investment both profitable and long lasting too. Incase of minor wear and tear, you can always put on a sticker in the patch and it looks trendy too. So next time you have a damaged beanbag, remember not to throw it away and get a new one with a huge sum of money; instead just use the simple items available at home to make it nice and useable again. You will be happy with both: your efforts as well as your savings. articlebase.com

Interesting read. However we will never know exactly who created the idea of bean bags and who just made it big. You'll never know really.
ReplyDeleteThe new type of bean bags are much comfier than the beans. By that i mean the memory foam bean bags.
I work for a charity(find website below) and we launched a project with comfibag.com The deal was, for every child you sponsor you will get a bean bag free.
comfibag.com main business line is memory foam bean bags, however it was quite easy for them to fill the bags with polystyrene beans.
Anyway, during the initial meeting with the manager of the firm he took me through and sat me on one of his 'comfibags' in a world he calls 'comfiland' and it was very comfy. Price wasnt bad either. I didnt buy one in the end too big for my house.
That was a long article, next time just put the link in!
ReplyDeleteyou could also put old clothes into them to repair them like i once did... i made my own bean bag from clothes and a plastic bag... i dont think it was as comfi as a comfibag though
